Dental Bonding

Patient looking at their teeth with their dentistThroughout time, our teeth see lots of wear. Starting at the moment our first adult teeth peek through, they begin their long journey of experiencing constant routine wear and tear. Unfortunately, while this is fairly common, it can start to affect the appearance of one's smile, and can, in turn, cause some self-consciousness.

Fortunately, through dental bonding (also known as the application of dental resin) your teeth can be repaired, restored, and renovated to a beautiful smile that will inspire confidence for years to come. If you are looking forward to reclaiming your best smile, our team here at Viva Smiles Family Dental is ready to help.

What Is Dental Bonding, and Who Can It Help?

Dental bonding is useful for anyone who might want to fix tooth chipping and cracking, as well as seal any gaps and overall improve the look of their teeth. There are many reasons someone may want to consider dental bonding. Something as simple as brushing gives your teeth minor wear and tear, possibly affecting their appearance. On occasion, our teeth will encounter damage or abrasions that can slightly chip or crack the teeth. Sometimes also teeth will naturally have spaces in between them. Sometimes teeth can be decayed, or gums can recede.

Dental bonding is the procedure of utilizing a soft type of composite resin to help fix or improve the condition and appearance of teeth. It can be used to fix chips and cracks, but it can also be used to enhance some teeth and their surrounding tissue. The resin is pliable and moldable by our team, which allows us to shape it to any form, and polish it to any shade you may desire.

Bonding is used when someone may need a tooth treatment to correct gaps or cracks, but it can also be used to shape teeth into a nicer form, as well. Bonding can also help add tooth material replacement on tooth roots that may need it. If there are gaps between teeth, our specialists can fill in the gaps and shape the resin neatly so as to blend in with the teeth. Chipped teeth can also have the tooth reformed back into one solid tooth.

How Is Dental Bonding Performed?

Dental bonding uses resin to create the tooth-colored material correcting a tooth's shape by adding layers onto a damaged tooth. The natural tooth is often treated with an etching solution first, in order to roughen up the surface of the tooth so that the resin can better adhere on and cure. After the resin has been applied and shaped, a high-intensity laser is used for curing the resin. Several layers of this process need to be performed, with gradual shaping. Thankfully, most processes only last around 30 minutes. The process also involves no need for anesthesia.

If you are ready to regain your smile, or improve it to its full and bright potential, rest assured that there are many options available to you where dental bonding can help.
